The Party’s ON…Start Spreading the News!

No party-hosting enthusiast should be without a strategic assortment of spreaders for cheeses, dips, jellies and other spreadable fare. Right now, you’re probably wondering what strategy has to do with it, and I’m happy to tell you.

I have a drawer full of spreaders in my kitchen, and I choose the spreaders for a particular event based on their distinctive handles. My handle designs complement the occasion, whether it’s a fall party, Halloween party, baby shower, Thanksgiving, Christmas party, birthday bash, spring garden party…well, you get the idea. Plus, I have quite a few generic handles that work beautifully for just about any party.

Spreading Joy!
For most of my well-worn collection of spreaders, I have family and friends to thank. They chose spreaders as wedding favors, bridal shower favors, baby shower favors, wine-tasting favors—and I’ve saved every one! Every time I open that drawer, I pull out a few heartwarming memories along with the perfect spreaders for my party.

That’s why you might want to consider favoring your guests with a themed spreader at your next event. You can find spreaders to suit any occasion, and the best part? Guests will definitely take them home and use them! And believe me, everyone can use another spreader!

Kate’s Collection
That’s also why Kate Aspen is growing our fabulous selection of spreaders (some with a ceramic tray or cheese board!) Besides photos, a favor is often the only tangible memory we have of a special occasion. Brides and event hosts always hope their favor choice makes a lasting impression, and guests are always thrilled to return home with a favor they can use again and again, especially for entertaining!

One of my favorites is the “Vintage Reserve” Stainless-Steel Spreader with a Wine Cork Handle. It’s the ideal favor for weddings held at a winery or for couples who are wine aficionados. When I have wine-tasting dinner parties, my guests use the spreader for one of my appetizers, and they also receive one as a favor to take home. Since most of my guests contributed to my spreader collection at one time or another, I simply see it as returning the favor!

Awesome Autumn Accents for Your Fall Wedding

Changing leaves, cooler temperatures, longer nights, the chance to wear those fab sweaters or football—no matter what your reason, everyone has a reason to love fall! So, if you’ve turned your love for this season into the theme for your wedding, there are lots of ways to make it special, from the color scheme to the attire. But for some unique expressions of this time of year, consider adding these awesome autumn accents to your special day.

Autumn activities
Fall is such a wonderful time to be outside. After a sweltering summer, the cooler temps yield mild days and cool nights that are perfect for campfires and hayrides. Why not incorporate these favorite fall activities into the reception? For an outdoor wedding, open pit fires help set the scene, keep guests warm in the evening and provide the perfect opportunity to make S’mores! Create a fun DIY s’mores station with graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate and something unexpected like caramel so that guests can make their own treats over the fire. Hayrides would be a fun activity for guests and an awesome way for the bride and groom to leave the reception.

Go-Go Gobo lighting
Even if your wedding reception is indoors, you can still accent it with the design of fall leaves, branches and pinecones for an elegant light scape throughout the room. Less rustic than actually bringing nature in, Gobo lighting can create a stunning effect with those same elements cast on the dance floor, a wall or anywhere else you’d like.

Table accents
Special accents on the table really add to the décor and go a long way in making a great first impression. The table is usually the first thing guests see, and what they’ll be looking at for most of the night. So, your choice for table décor is important. To bring a touch of fall to the table, place your fall wedding favor at each place setting. Use a fall theme picture frame to hold your place cards or seating assignments. When a beautiful fall centerpiece completes the look, you’ll have a warm fall table to greet your guests.

Fall fare
Spice up the menu a bit with a few unexpected seasonal favorites. How about some delightful pumpkin soup served in its own little gourd? Looks inviting doesn’t it! Duck or pheasant are wonderful additions to the dinner menu as well. On the lighter, sweeter side, have a little something different for dessert, like these caramel apples that can be enjoyed during or after the reception. They’re a fall favorite, for sure!

No matter which one of these ideas you decide to incorporate into your wedding, your guests will fall for these autumn accents!

Bamboozled! What “Wood” Your Guests Think?

Honestly? They’d think you care deeply about them—and the planet we all share. You’d be doing them a meaningful favor by thanking them with practical gifts crafted from highly sustainable bamboo, one of the most resilient—and symbolic—materials available. Let’s explore the beauty of bamboo!

  • Bamboo is found all over the world in varied climates
  • Bamboo has a higher tensile strength than many alloys of steel
  • Structures built of bamboo have withstood 9.0 magnitude earthquakes
  • Bamboo can be transformed into buildings, fabric and clothing, food, medicine, musical instruments, charcoal, wedding favors and more
  • Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant on the planet (some species have actually been measured to grow more than four feet in 24 hours)
  • Some believe that if bamboo were planted on a mass basis, it could completely reverse the effects of global warming in just 6 years, and provide a renewable source of food, building material, and erosion prevention

Strong in Symbolism, Too!
Many Asian cultures revere bamboo for its distinctive qualities, so the plant’s symbolism varies from country to country. I compiled bamboo symbolism from various Asian cultures, and I’m sure you can find one or two special blessings you’d not only like to impart to your guests, but also bestow on you and your groom as you launch your new life together:

  • Longevity
  • Good Luck
  • Grace
  • Friendship
  • Simplicity
  • Humility
  • The Spirit of Summer
  • In Chinese philosophy, the straight stem of bamboo symbolizes the path towards enlightenment, and the segments of the stem are the “steps” along the way

Bamboo-tiful Favors!
Wow! Paving the way to the path towards enlightenment for family and friends? Now that’s a “thank you” gift! The exceptionally enlightened designers here at Kate Aspen    have created a number of graceful ways to do just that. My three favorites are the Natural Bamboo Coasters, the “Breezy Bamboo” Photo Frame and, as a huge fan of cheese, I highly recommend the “Tastefully Yours” Bamboo Cheese Board and Spreader!

One more interesting tidbit about bamboo before I go—it’s actually a grass. Yes! Giant bamboo is the largest member of the grass family. I can’t even begin to imagine the size of the mower!
