Premier Favor Designer KateAspen to Sponsor

Young Survival Coalition’s Tour De Pink Atlanta

Atlanta, GA, September 25, 2009—Kate Aspen, a leading designer and manufacturer of wedding favors and gifts and baby shower favors, has signed on as a sponsor for the Young Survival Coalition’s Tour de Pink Atlanta, as part of  the company’s In Favor of a Cure™ initiative.

The fund-raising bike ride on October 17, will benefit the Atlanta Chapter of Young Survival Coalition (YSC), the foremost international organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women suffering the effects of breast cancer. YSC works with survivors, caregivers and the medical, research, advocacy and legislative communities to increase the quality and quantity of life for these women.

Some Kate Aspen employees are biking while others will staff the rest stops throughout the northern suburbs of Atlanta, where the company is based. Kate Aspen is also donating favors for event gift bags. Along with participation in this inaugural, local event for the metro Atlanta chapter of YSC, Kate Aspen provides ongoing support for national YSC through its Pink Ribbon Collection—three pink ribbon-inspired favors which include a favor box, a photo frame and an eco-friendly, plantable favor. These meaningful favors launched two years ago as part of their In Favor of a Cure™ initiative.  Kate Aspen donates ten percent of proceeds from the sale of these favors to YSC.

Kate Aspen president and CEO Jennifer Fallon notes, “Kate Aspen is a female-owned, female-focused business with women in 80% of upper management roles and 85% of staff, so women’s issues—especially breast cancer—have a profound, personal effect on our organization. We’re especially proud that our favors can have a positive impact for YSC.”

To further illustrate their commitment to the In Favor of a Cure™ initiative and to YSC during the month of October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), The Aspen Brands Company, parent company to Kate Aspen, will turn their signature teal logo bow pink, to remind others of the ongoing need to find a cure.

You know that we support everything Young Survival Coalition does.  Our In Favor of a Cure™ initiative supports YSC through our signature Pink Ribbon Collection.

Breast cancer is an insipid disease that affects millions of young women daily.  I’ve had the pleasure of working with one survivor who knew first hand the power of the YSC support network, and I’m here to tell you, these are very dedicated, caring and talented people.  They are a God-send to those touched by this illness.

I’m tickled pink (pun intended) to help publicize a super-fun event they’re holding in Atlanta on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Perimeter Mall.  It’s called Tour de Pink (don’t you just love the name?) and it’s a great bike ride through the lovely, tree-shaded northern suburbs of Atlanta.  Proceeds from your fund raising efforts go to the Atlanta Chapter of YSC and trust me, they don’t spend it all on trips and accoutrements.  They manage their donation dollars wisely.

Here’s a little bit about the Metro chapter straight from their website:

YSC Greater Metro Atlanta was formed at the end of 2000 by a 22-year old college student facing a breast cancer diagnosis. YSC Atlanta currently serves 11 counties in the Metro Atlanta area. We focus on education and outreach opportunities and provide peer-to-peer support for newly diagnosed young women. We also hold monthly social events for survivors and volunteer nights for anyone interested in getting involved. YSC Atlanta provides educational programs, support and long term survivorship planning for a young woman from the moment she is diagnosed throughout her life.

You might remember a while back I posted some information about YSC  International from Jenna Glazer.  You can click here to see it again if you’d like.

So even if you aren’t in the Atlanta area to join us for the Tour de Pink Atlanta Bike Ride, but you know of a young woman who is facing breast cancer, do visit the YSC website for a chapter near you.  The support and educational programs are vital, educational and awesome.

Ride.  Support.  Inspire!

Thank you.

My parents raised me with a strong work ethic and the belief that it’s important to give back to the world you live in.

In Favor of a Cure™ is our way of giving back here at work.  One of the organizations we support with the proceeds from our pink ribbon favors is the Young Survival Coalition (YSC).  YSC is close to my heart because of the vital assistance it provided my friend, Kim, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 34.  Kim’s surgeon recommended the YSC website and, through this portal, Kim found advice, comfort, encouragement and information to help ease her way through treatment and recovery from this terrible disease.

Jenna Glazer is the Associate Director of Development for YSC, and a breast cancer survivor herself.  Jenna is a sharp, sharp person, and I enjoy working with her on In Favor of a Cure™ projects. I asked her to please write a little bit about the important work that they do, in case you know someone who might benefit from their programs.  Here’s what Jenna had to say:

“YSC is an international organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women and breast cancer.  We work with survivors, caregivers, and the medical, research, advocacy and legislative communities to increase the quality and quantity of life for young women diagnosed with breast cancer.  We are proud to be serving tens of thousands of women all around the globe.

Through programming at the local and national level, YSC works with affiliates across the country to change the experience of these young women.  A few of the programs we offer include:

  • The YSC website, which is the most comprehensive resource in the world for and about young women with breast cancer (http://www.youngsurvival.org)
  • The Annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer, which is the only international conference of its kind addressing the critical concerns and issues faced by young women affected by breast cancer.
  • ResourceLink – an email and toll-free resource for people with questions about breast cancer in young women.
  • Point of Contact – a program  that matches survivors with peer volunteers.
  • Young Perspectives Teleconferences, a national series addressing issues critical to young women living with this disease
  • Living with Metatastic Cancer, which are programs developed specifically for women living with advanced disease
  • Newly Diagnosed Resource Kits – providing newly diagnosed patients with practical information and local resources specific to young women.”

It’s amazing what they do with their dynamic programs.  And they have many, many local chapters - there’s probably one near you!  So if you know someone who could benefit from their compassionate expertise and fabulous information network, please refer them to www.youngsurvival.org.  It’s a true lifeline.
